Bulgaria and Turkey have a common understanding that the development of gas transmission infrastructure, covering more countries on the Balkan and Europe, will ensure greater energy security on the continent. This is the opinion shared by the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Turkey, Boyko Borissov and Binali Yıldırım, who met at the 22nd World Petroleum Congress on 10 July in Istanbul.

Borissov and Yıldırım pointed out that the good political and economic ties between Bulgaria and Turkey, as well as their geographical location, determine the importance of bilateral energy cooperation for the transit of energy resources.

Borissov noted that a major step forward in this respect would be the construction of an intersystem gas connection between Bulgaria and Turkey. He also underlined the support of the Bulgarian side for the development of the Southern Gas Corridor.

"One of the countries with a key role in its construction is Turkey. We state our support and we will work very actively to implement it," Prime Minister Borisov said.

Earlier today, Borissov and Yıldırım had informal talks at the World Petroleum Congress. The talks also included Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Berat Albayrak.
