Eurostat however specified that the main reason was the adjustment of VAT revenues in the country.
Only Estonia and Luxembourg have less debt than Bulgaria. The EU country with the highest ratio of government debt to GDP remains Greece, followed by Italy, Portugal and Cyprus.
