130 kg of marijuana worth over 3 million BGN was seized on Trakia motorway near Plovdiv late last night. Two people were arrested - a Bulgarian and a Macedonian, police and prosecutors said at a briefing on February 15.

The arrest was the result of a joint operation by State Agency for National Secirity, General Directorate for Combatting Organised Crime and the Interior Ministry-Plovdiv, under the direction of the district Prosecutor's Office.

Two charges are to be brought against the two arrested - one is a 47-year-old citizen of North Macedonia who has been convicted before. The other detainee is a 43-year-old Bulgarian citizen, said Galina Andreeva of the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office.
If found guilty, the punishment is from 5 to 15 years of imprisonment, as the marijuana transported was in particularly large quantities, and the Macedonian citizen is a repeat offender.
The work on the case continues, the identity of other persons involved in the crime is being established.
