Bulgarian police seized huge amount of counterfeit banknotes, matrices for printing them and illegal guns during a specialized operation in the village of Tatarevo, South Bulgaria, district of Plovdiv, on 1st of November.
The total amount of the fake banknotes was approximately 14 million euro. The money were in 500 euro denominations without hologram stickers.The largest amount - 12 million euro in uncut fake notes - was found in the waters of Mechka dam.
The operation was carried out following a signal reported to the Bulgarian State Agency for National Security.
The police also found some instruments and marijuana in a house in the village of Tatarevo, as well as 14 illegal guns, half of them with deleted series numbers. The weapons had been stolen from a shop in the city of Haskovo two years earlier and later the shop was set on fire.
Three persons have been detained. Bulgaria’s chief prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov said that this was the largest amount of fake banknotes ever seized in the country.
