Marieta Georgieva is the first Bulgarian woman to have walked the distance from the so-called 'last degree' to the geographical South Pole
Marieta Georgieva has proudly raised the Bulgarian flag at the southernmost point on the planet. After summiting Mount Vinson in Antarctica, she successfully completed a 110-kilometre ski trek from the 89th parallel south to the South Pole.
On 14 December, marking the anniversary of Roald Amundsen’s first expedition to the South Pole, Georgieva reached the pole, becoming the first Bulgarian woman to cover the so-called “last degree” to the geographic South Pole.
With this achievement, Marieta has now climbed six of the seven continental summits and reached one of the two geographic poles, placing her on the cusp of joining the extremely elite group of fewer than 100 people worldwide who have completed the Explorer Grand Slam — summiting all seven continents and reaching both the North and South Poles.

The expedition is part of the educational mission of the “Little Explorers – From Everest to Antarctica” Foundation, which aims to inspire children and young people to develop an interest in science, geography, and exploration of extreme environments.
