The processing of election papers is ongoing. The final results are expected to be announced by Thursday, said Assoc. Tsvetozar Tomov from the Central Election Commission. Then the exact turnout will be confirmed.
"From the data so far it is clear that just over 2.5 million people voted in October 2 elections. The final figure may change, but I can say with certainty that this is the parliamentary election with the lowest turnout of all elections held since 1990," said Assoc. Tomov.
The CEC expects to receive the results from all polling stations by the end of the day. This will be followed by data re-entry and other processing steps that may slightly affect the parties' results. That is why Tsvetozar Tomov at the moment refused to comment which parties are entering the 48th National Assembly.
If the National Statistical Institute (NSI)had announced the census data earlier, it would have affected the distribution of seats in the constituencies, Tsvetozar Tomov said.
The NSI announced the results of the latest census today, October 3. Therefore, data from the previous census of the NSI were used for the distribution of seats in the past elections.
Now that new data on the number of the population are available, CEC will probably have to reconsider the distribution of seats before the next elections, Tomov said.
