Charges have been pressed against the former minister of energy Petar Dimitrov over Belene Nuclear Power Plant Project.
Shortly after 9:00 on 19th of October, Dimitrov and his lawyer appeared in Sofia city Prosecutor’s Office. The charges against him were for mismanagement and disadvantageous deal for the purchase of an old nuclear reactor by the Russian company Atomstroyexport. According to the prosecution, the deal resulted in damages to the Bulgarian a state to the amount of 77 million euro because the National Electricity Company fully committed to bear the costs for transportation of the old equipment to Russia.
On Monday, 17th of October, the prosecutor’s office charged two former directors of NEC over the Belene deal for the purchase of the old nuclear equipment by Atomstroyexport. At that time, the prosecution said that by the end of the week, more officials would face charges in relation to the deal.
