The epicenter is at a depth of 10 km, near the shores of Western Turkey, 85 km away from Izmir.
People living within a radius of 100 km felt the earthquake very strongly, saying it lasted about 20 seconds. Aftershock of 5.0 magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded at 15.35.
