The European Commission has announced that it will invest 33m euros in the construction of the 182km interconnector pipeline between Komotini, Greece and Stara Zagora, Bulgaria.
The pipeline is a European project of common interest contributing to the achievement of the objectives of the Energy Union, the report said.
The European Commission states that the pipeline will diversify energy sources in the region and increase energy security.
Greater competition in the gas market will lead to lower prices for consumers.
Bulgaria is one of the ten EU countries where the Commission will invest a total of € 4 billion for 25 major infrastructure projects. By adding national funding, total investments in these projects amount to € 8 billion.
