Farmers' protests in Greece have now entered their second week, with blockades persisting at the Bulgarian–Greek border crossing at Kulata–Promachonas.
At 12:00 noon each day, representatives of the Greek agricultural sector reinstate the blockades at the crossing, primarily targeting heavy-goods vehicles. However, it is not uncommon for cars and coaches carrying tourists to be held up for hours as well.
Tanya Pencheva, a representative of a travel agency, told BNT that the situation is unpleasant, but agencies remain in constant contact with the Greek authorities, who assure them that if any problem arises preventing coaches from passing through, they will intervene immediately to resolve it.
She added that some people have cancelled their bookings and trips, while others choose to take the risk and travel regardless.
“In principle, Greeks do not wish to create problems for tourism,” Pencheva said, expressing hope that the situation will be resolved and the blockades lifted before the holiday period.
