Fire occurred shortly after 7.00 am in “Republica” Thermal Power Plant in the town of Pernik, near Sofia, the director of the Regional Directorate "Fire Safety and Protection of the Population" in the town of Pernik, Commissioner Emil Markov saidf on 20th of June.
The fire was caused by a cable on the conveyor belt that transports coal to the TPP. Embers have dropped from the cable causing flames. The fire has been extinguished. The belt is working. Firefighting teams are conducting an inspection.
There was no risk for the residents of the town. The TPP did not stop working.
