The gas market in Bulgaria will be liberalised as of 1st of December, the Chair of the State Energy Regulatory Commission, Ivan Ivanov, said on 2nd of November. He forecasted that the change would not affect the prices of gas and heating in the country. According to him, the information about oil reserves in the Black Sea will ensure energy independence in the next decade.
From 1st of December 2016, the industrial consumers will have the opportunity to choose the gas suppliers. However, Russia has been the only importer. Therefore the Chair of the regulator does not expect changes in the prices of natural gas and heating after the liberalisation of the market.
According to Ivanov, the liberalised gas market will start operating effectively after the appearance of higher number of suppliers and after Bulgaria starts extracting fuels from its own fields.
