GERB-UDF demanded, with its declaration from the parliamentary rostrum, the convening of the Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS) by President Rumen Radev. The motive for the request is the future of the coal power plants in the Maritsa basin. According to the party, Bulgaria will lose billions because it will have to stop exporting electricity from 2026.
"Electricity exports are at a record high this year, amounting to 10.8 million megawatt hours until November 13, 2022. That is, exports are almost as much as we have to reduce electricity production by. By 2026 we will become an importer of electricity," said Delyan Dobrev of GERB-UDF.
Bulgaria has asked for a renegotiation of the terms and percentages for the shutdown of coal plants, caretaker Energy Minister Rosen Hristov explained yesterday. In his words, however, Brussels is not willing to compromise on these issues. Bulgaria can modernise the capacities to fulfil its obligation. This way they will work and the country will receive money under the Recovery and Resileince Plan.
Bulgaria has the right not to comply with the Commission's demands, but it will not receive money under the Recovery Plan.
