Low voter turnout is a verdict on Radev’s government, said Alexandrina Pandachanska
“One never knows what one gains when one loses, or what one loses when one wins. Even today, although we may not emerge victorious, the result is a good one for us. Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev will continue to move forward.” This was stated by Aleksandrina Pandachanska of the initiative committee supporting Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev in the first statement from the presidential candidates’ campaign headquarters following the exit poll results.
Alexandrina Pandachanska:“I am hopeful. We cannot ignore the fact that the parties supporting Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev have doubled their result since the spring. Iotova has cut Progressive Bulgaria’s result in half. Around 1.8 million people voted for all the formations backing her, whereas her result now is unlikely to reach 900,000. We are seeing a twofold decline in her support, while Andrey Gyurov has doubled his result. This cannot fail to make us pleased and happy. We have mobilised a large proportion of our voters, and there are twice as many of them as there were in the spring. Andrey Gyurov is not a professional politician; he does not belong to the political class, which makes him much cleaner. He is not as tainted as many Bulgarian politicians. People saw him for the first time. His lack of experience and political polish, compared with Iotova’s after 30 years in the upper echelons of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, was evident during the debate. Gyurov has a great deal of potential.”
Regarding voter turnout in the presidential election, Pendechanska stated:
Aleksandrina Pandachanska, Gyurov–Kandev Initiative Committee: “Many people did not come out to vote today, and that is a verdict on Radev’s government. Radev has failed on most of the things he promised – reducing prices, increasing incomes and fighting the oligarchy. This was evident in these elections, and all of Bulgaria is suffering as a result.”
