There were no votes against or abstentions
The Bulgarian Parliament on December 4 unanimously elected Kiril Valchev for a second five-year term as Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), with 170 votes in favour and none against or abstaining.
Kiril Valchev's candidacy was proposed by Members of Parliament Kostadin Angelov (GERB), Toshko Yordanov (There Is Such a People), and Mariana Boyadzhieva (BSP - United Left)
Following the announcement of his election by Parliament Speaker Raya Nazaryan, Valchev took the oath before the National Assembly, pledging to uphold the Constitution and laws of the country and to conscientiously carry out his duties as BTA Director General in accordance with the principles set out in the BTA Act.
Speaker Nazaryan wished him a successful term.
During the nomination process, more than 60 letters of support for Valchev’s candidacy were submitted to the National Assembly, according to Toshko Yordanov, Chair of the Culture and Media Committee, when presenting the nomination.
