The Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) overturned the decision for introduction of machine voting in only 500 polling stations and ruled that voting machines had to be installed in every polling station in Bulgaria at the early election scheduled for 26th of March.
The spokesperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Tsvetozar Tomov said that given that the SAC ruled so, the Central Election Commission would comply with it, but there would be many difficulties that needed to be overcome.
He added that most of the difficulties are connected with the short deadlines for securing the machine voting option. He explained that there were polling stations in which it would be technically impossible or very complicated to be equipped with machines, such as the mobile polling stations and the ones abroad.
He also said that the government would need to amend the funding envisaged for the elections and that the deadlines were very tight.
In his opinion, a public debate is necessary because this is an issue not only for the CEC and the relevant institutions should put some joint efforts to solve the issue.
