The people got ahead of Parliament, casting a vote of no confidence in the government tonight. An unprecedented number of Bulgarians of all ages and political affiliations took to the streets of Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas… across Bulgaria and even in Europe, President Rumen Radev wrote in a post on Facebook, commenting on the large-scale protests demamnding the resignation of the government on December 10.
“The protests have given rise to a broad popular consensus against the mafia, one that is more important than any divisions or attempts to appropriate hope. Honourable members of parliament, tomorrow you should choose between the dignity of the free voting and the shame of dependency. Between the voice of the people and the fear of the mafia. Listen to the squares! The next move is yours. My choice is clear.”
