President Radev: Bulgaria should continue to develop nuclear energy

President Rumen Radev said on June 5 that Bulgaria should continue to develop nuclear energy for decades to come and not give up its basic capacities. He said this would give us peace of mind until our country begins to rely entirely on solar, wind and other new sources of energy.

The Head of State was a special guest at an international nuclear conference being held at the Golden Sands resort near Varna. Addressing the participants in the event, Radev recalled that Bulgaria has 50 years of experience in the safe and hopeful operation of nuclear power plants and that entirely with our trained, highly qualified staff. He gave the example of the neighbours Romania, which are working to build new reactors:

"And in my remaining term as President, I will also work with the Bulgarian governments and the Bulgarian Parliament so that we have greater clarity and more serious guarantees. The construction of a new unit opens up the possibility of thousands of new jobs in its construction. It then allows for other additional employment. The way forward is clear. I am very glad that, at last, after many years of waiting, which have proved disastrous, there is a political decision and the will for Bulgaria to continue to develop its nuclear energy."
