President Radev convenes 51st Parliament on November 11

Head of State Rumen Radev convenes the 51st Parliament on Monday - 11 November, he told journalists on November 4.

"Strengthening parliamentarism is the direct responsibility of political parties. The credibility of the Parliament depends on their actions to support the fairness of the vote. That is why the referral to the Constitutional Court is their chance, the parties' chance, to strengthen this trust in Parliament," Radev said.

Asked whether he would file a complaint regarding the elections, Radev said his actions would depend on what real steps the parties would take and whether they would take steps.

Asked whether he saw a desire for constructive dialogue, Radev said he did not comment on the political declarations of the parties, but would support any effort to strengthen parliamentarism and democracy.

"The leadership of the Ministry of Interior has not met public expectations," Radev said. In his words, a distinction should be made between the passive and active activities of this ministry.

He pointed out that the passive one consists in response to alerts they receive.

For me, the real commitment of the leadership of the Ministry of Interior to the fairness of the vote lies in proactive work, in preventive and operational work. And these are measured in the number of advance warning protocols. And something that is missing in this report - the requests for application of Special Surveillance Devices. These two indicators in the last elections are 5 to 8 times less than those during the caretaker governments I appointed," Radev said.

"And this vague interest of the Ministry of Interior’s leadership in the fairness of the elections is rather, in my opinion, due not to a lack of professionalism, but to succumbing to political pressure and lack of political will," the head of state added.
