During the consultations with each of the parties, I raised the issue of their proposal for a formula and for forming a cabinet, because that is the purpose of the elections. The parties should form a cabinet and take responsibility for running the country. This is what President Rumen Radev said at a briefing in Athens, where he is on an official visit on July 2.
The head of state is not surprised by GERB-UDF’s proposal for the post of Prime Minister:
"During the consultations with GERB, on my questions, they expressed their disappointment that they cannot propose a government because there is no support from the parties. And accordingly, I directed the attention to other European countries where there is a minority government, as a solution. It just requires responsibility and political courage. This is one path that the leadership of GERB decided to follow and it is normal for them to propose such a government."
President Radev believes that such a minority government carries risks and this is something new for our political system. He confirmed that tomorrow he will go to the Parliament where the draft cabinet proposed by GERB-UDF’s Prime Minister-designate Rosen Zhelyazkov is expected to be voted on.
