The District Prosecutor's Office in the town of Gorna Oryahovitsa began an investigation on 26th of June into the incident at the city's railway station, where two train drivers were injured during a fire in a diesel locomotive of a freight train. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated for causing average bodily harm to both.
So far it has been found that the train was not moving at the time of the incident. The drivers saw smoke coming out of the engine and when they went to see what was happening, the engine exploded. A complex fire-technical assesment has been appointed to identify the cause of the incident. It is yet to be determined who is responsible.
The two drivers are in the mergency hospital in sofia with between 10-15% burn injuries, mainly affecting the head and arms, and smoke inhalation injuries. Operations will be done following doctors’ assessment. According to reports from Pirogov emergency hospital, the condition of the two train drivers is stable.
