Second day of the programme for relocation of Ukrainian refugees from resorts and hotels on the Black Sea coast to the interior of the country. Today, May 30, as well as yesterday, fewer people than those who have expressed interest will travel by train.

Bourgas region

Two buses are leaving from one of the hotels in Sunny Beach, where there are 1500 refugees. Only 67 people will be taken to the state-owned accommodation facility in Kiten. Apart from this hotel, there are two other locations in the resort from where buses will depart. However, there is a large number of Ukrainians who have at the last minute decided not to travel.

Today refugees will not leave the Bourgas region because they will be accommodated in bases on the southern Black Sea coast. It is not yet clear whether a train will leave from Bourgas station to transport those who want to go to the interior of the country.

Many of the refugees in the region have refused to travel because of the lack of organisation and because they have no information about where they will be accommodated. Some even decided not to travel at the last minute. Drivers also did not know where people would be accommodated.

Varna region

78 refugees from resorts on the Northern Black Sea coast boarded the Varna - Sofia train to be accommodated in state-owned accomodation facilities in the interior of the country - in Ribaritsa, Panichishte and Veliko Turnovo. Some of them left the resorts with their own transport. Some went to friends in Sofia.

The Refugee Agency will relocate 300 refugees from Varna with disabilities and chronic diseases to the city region.

One of the reasons why the refugees refuse to be housed in state-owned facilities is because they are in small settlements. The Ukrainians themselves do not know what the infrastructure is there, whether there is access to medical services and education, what the amenities are in these places.

The Bulgarian government established the new programme for accommodating displaced people from Ukraine after May 31.

The hotels that took in refugees will go back to their usual business in the summer. The programme provides BGN 15 per day per person to hotels far from the coast as well as to municipal or state-owned accommodation facilities willing to provide shelter and food to the displaced people.

The relocation of the first two groups was planned for Sunday, from Varna and Bourgas: 120 people to Panichishte and 180 to Ribaritsa.

About 15,000 Ukrainian refugees are accommodated in 150 hotels in the region of Varna. Over 3,000 have already left for Ukraine.

5,000 will stay in hotels near Varna, which are on the third and fourth line from the beach and which will not welcome tourists this year.

For the remaining 6,000 Ukrainians in the Varna region there are places in state-owned accommodation facilities in the interior of the country. Buses were arranged for today form the hotels to the railway station in Varna to transport those who wish to move to the interior of the country.
