The sixth Bulgarian accused in the UK of spying for Russia - Tihomir Ivanchev, appeared today in person before the Westminster Magistrates' Court in London, BNR's correspondent in the UK Veselin Paunov told BNT February 28.
Ivanchev has confirmed his identity to the court. He has been formally charged with espionage in favour of Russia. His next case is scheduled for 15 March.
Ivanchev was arrested on 7 February as part of an ongoing investigation by the London police's Anti-Terrorist Unit.
Last night, the British Prosecutor's office announced that the 38-year-old Bulgarian had been charged with espionage for Russia and was part of a network of five Bulgarians already charged last year on the island. They are accused of being part of an alleged Russian spy network between August 2020 and February 2023.
Orlin Rusev, Biser Dzhambazov, Katrin Ivanova, Ivan Stoyanov and Vanya Gaberova were arrested in February last year. Their next appearance in court is scheduled for October.
