Workers of Sofia Airport staged a protest on 30th of January against plans for concession of the airport.
The protest was organized by the Association of transport workers. Last week they brought a list of demands to the Presidency and hoped President Radev would take a position on the case.
The main concern of the protesting workers is their jobs. According to them, the new concession will not guarantee that they will remain on the jobs. Protesters argue that the airport is in pretty good financial situation and the deal would be disadvantageous for the state.
At an extraordinary press conference, the airport said they could not comment on the specific parameters of the concession itself, as this was a political decision. According to them there acting a collective agreement with which the concessionaire will have to comply. "If there is a concession, the chairman of the board of directors Peykov commented, no one is immune, in the sense that the first that may be changed, could be the management of Sofia Airport."
For 2016 the profit of the airport is only 9 million BGN.
