STREET OF CRAFTS TO BE OPENED IN BULGARIA’S PLOVDIV

The street "Stramna” (steep) in the Old Town of Bulgaria’s Plovdiv ( 2019 European capital of Culture), will become a permanent exhibition of the works of local craftsmen. The idea is of the Regional Chamber of Crafts. They will receive three houses on the small street in the reserve, which is located on the back of the Museum of History in Plovdiv.

In the 80-ties of the past century, the houses were home to a variety of crafts. There were studios there until recently, although not so many, but craftsmen worked without visitors, because the steep and narrow street did not become popular for tourists.

"There were two woodcarvers, two weavers, some masters of musical instruments, a coppersmith. Now I do not know what crafts there will be, because we have not yet reviewed the applications by colleagues from the Chamber of Crafts."

After the successful editions of the Fair of crafts, craftsmen are sure they will revive the interest of people with attractive demonstrations.

The first craftsmen are expected to move into the houses in January.
