The Court of Appeals upholds the remand measure of three police officers from Slivo Pole, who were detained for bribe taking.
The Veliko Turnovo Court of Appeals disregarded the requests of two of the accused in bribery to change the remand measures taken against them by the magistrates in Rousse.
The opinion is that their demands are unfounded and they must remain with the strictest measure. The ruling is not subject to appeal.
Emil Mollov and Nazif Ahmedov are being investigated for systematic extortion of money from drivers travelling on the main road Rousse - Silistra.
According to the indictment, together with the unit chief Boris Borisov, who has decided not to appeal the remand measure "detention in custody", the three have taken over 20 bribes of between BGN 20 and 800. They were monitored for almost 6 months. Special intelligence devices were used.
The Prosecutor's office said the three took turns in official cars without cameras and extorted mostly foreign drivers, telling them that the only way to continue on their way was to pay a “fine” on the spot.
If found guilty, they will be sentenced to up to 10 years of imprisonment.
