A ban on the movement of heavy goods vehicles on motorways in bulgaria enters into force as of 7 July. However, the restriction will apply for the last three days of the week - Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
For Trakia motorway, the ban does not allow lorries to move from 18:00 to 20:00 on Fridays in the direction towards Bourgas and on Sunday evenings in the direction towards Sofia.
For Struma motorway, the ban is in place for Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 in the direction towards Kulata border crossing and for Maritsa motorway - on Sundays from 16.00 to 20.00 in the direction towards Trakia motorway.
The movement of heavy goods vehicles on Struma Motorway will not be allowed on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 in the direction to Daskalovo road junction to Kulata border crossing. The ban will also apply for main road E-79 from Blagoevgrad to Kulata, every Friday from 17:00 to 20:00 and on Sundays from 14:00 to 20:00.
TIR lorry drivers say the traffic restrictions would lead to difficulties for them and financial losses for many companies.
Car drivers say they support the introduced ban and in their opinion traffic would be relieved.
The Union of International Transport Workers said they would take the Regulation on the ban to court. They say it violates the Road Traffic Act.
TIR lorry drivers say they do not mind the ban for main and busy roads but should be cancelled for motorways.
