Construction work will continue into early 2026.
Due to the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, traffic on the Danube Bridge at Ruse will be restored in both directions from 18 December. Construction work on the currently closed 320-metre section of the carriageway towards Romania is nearing completion. This will allow all types of vehicles to pass without restrictions over the holiday period, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) announced on December 4.

This will ensure safe and convenient passage for travellers on the bridge. The main renovation will continue in the next phase early next year. “Construction work is scheduled to resume on the next 320 metres of the bridge in the carriageway towards Bulgaria from 8 January,” the Road Infrastructure Agency explained.
Over the past week, safety barriers, lighting columns, and the drainage collector have been installed. Work has also continued on renewing the expansion joints and applying a protective coating to the pavement blocks.
Construction on the Danube Bridge is carried out daily during daylight hours and depends on weather conditions. The work is organised so that vehicles can pass in both directions in the lane not under repair.
The main renovation of the Bulgarian section of the bridge began on 10 July last year. The section is 1.057 kilometres long, of which 413 metres have already been fully renovated.
