Two customs officers have been convicted at first instance court for malfeasance. Ivan Kaparov, an officer from the Customs Agency and Veslav Vasilev, inspector at Gueshevo customs checkpoint were sentenced to 3 and a half and respectively 2 and a half years of imprisonment.
The specialized court found them guilty for registering fictitious export of cigarettes from the EU in the European system.
Other findings include 8 cases of lorries with cigarettes exported from Poland to Turkey, which on documents left the EU through Kapitan Andreevo border crossing, but in reality they never left the territory of the community. This led to benefits to the Polish company, the manufacturer, which “saved” payment of excise and wrongfully reclaimed VAT.
