2,400 dams in the country are in a state of disrepair and 81 in a state of pre-failure, inspection by the State Agency for Metrology and Technical Surveillance (SAMTS) identified. Under the law, enforced decommissioning should be applied for dams in the state of pre-failure, deputy chief prosecutor at the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor’s Office, Asya Petrova, told BNT morning programme on 17th of February.
Petrova said that so far there had been no data on whether SAMTS had imposed enforcement administrative measure in respect of any of these 81 dams.
The findings about the dams in pre-failure state have been known for months, because the relevant reports by SAMTS are from November 2016, and the law should have been applied, and the Chairperson of SAMTS should have applied enforced administrative measures, Asya Petrova said.
She added that an assessment should have been done to identify whether enforcement measures were necessary for the other 2,000 dams that were in unsatisfactory technical state, until they were brought to a good condition.
