47TH EDITION OF THE FESTIVAL OF OPERA AND BALLET OPENED IN BULGARIA’S STARA ZAGORA

The 47th edition of the Festival of Opera and Ballet Art (FOBA) was officially launched on the stage of the opera house in the South Bulgarian city of Stara Zagora on 28th of November.

The hosts from Stara Zagora opened the festival with the premiere spectacles of the opera Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni and the ballet La Giara by Alfredo Casella, staged for the first time in Bulgaria.

As part of the tradition, the festival will feature a number of famous opera singers who will be special guests to the event. At the very opening of the festival, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy the performance of the opera star Olga Romanko and the soloist of world opera stages such as Arena di Verona, La Scala and Metropolitan, Kamen Chanev.

The Plovdiv Opera will perform The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach – co-production with the Macedonian Opera and Ballet. The Varna Theater@Music Production Center will present the musical drama by Mussorgsky, Boris Godunov. The spectacle stars world-famous bass Carlo Colombara. The State Ballet on ice – Saint Petersburg will present the classical work Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky.

The Ruse State Opera has prepared a special Ballet Evening for the festival with fragments from the classical repertoire and a special dance production based on The Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

The programme also includes the musical Love and Death at Moulin Rouge of the Music theatre Stefan Makedonski – Sofia.

The festival builds upon the efforts made last year related to the Balkan Opera Network.

It will run until 10th of December.
