Out of 90 samples tested at the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (NCIPD), the Delta variant of Covid-19 was identified in 57.
The samples were taken from Covid-19 patients from 18 districts in the country.
The Alpha variant was detected in 33 of the sequenced samples.
As at July 19, two people infected with the Delta variant died, 17 were admitted to hospital, 35 are undergoing treatment at home. Three have recovered.
