On 7th of November, the socialist breakaway ABC party which backed Ivailo Kalfin as candidate gave a press conference on the results of the first round of Presidential elections and national referendum, held on 6th of November.
Speaking at the press conference, the ABC leader Georgi Parvanov, a former President of Bulgaria, thanked the candidate for President Ivailo Kalfin and his running mate prof. Halachev. Parvanov noted they were “possibly the best candidates in the presidential contest”, brilliant professionals, statesmen and decent people.
Ivailo Kalfin did not attend the press conference. Parvanov explained he was busy in a meeting in Brussels.
The former Head of State also thanked the voters and the coalitional partners that supported the candidates nominated by “Kalfin – President” coalition.
He said that ABC were not pleased with the result and had reasons for a better one. We led a fight against the Plenveliev model in the Presidential institution. Others took advantage but such are the risks in the politics.
Parvanov described the ABC campaign as stylish and full of ideas.
He said that the “match” between GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party was fixed.
ABC party said they would continue to support the demand for early parliamentary elections.
Asked who the coalition would support in the runoff, the leader of ABC, said that the position of the party in this respect would be decided after a wide survey among its members. "But I can tell you that for the time being no voices in support of GERB’s candidate can be heard in the headquarters of ABC party, " Parvanov said.
