All flights between Sofia and Berlin are cancelled on 13th of March because of a strike of ground staff at Berlin’s airports Schönefeld and Tegel. The strike began early on Monday morning and will go on until 5.00 a.m. on 14th of March.
The protest is expected to include about 2,000 ground staff from the two airports. Their trade union is demanding a pay rise to 12 euros per hour from about 11 euros. So far, the union held several rounds of negotiations with the employers but were not successful.
Passengers are advised to contact their airline to check their flight status before getting off to the airport, the website of Berlin’s airport says.
Tens of thousands of passengers were stranded in Berlin airport due to the same strike action on 10th of March as 455 flights at Tegel airport and 204 Schönefeld were cancelled.
The ground staff includes workers responsible for checking in passengers, loading and unloading baggage and directing aircraft on the tarmac.
