Bulgaria’s Central Election Commission announced the official results of the elections for the 44th Parliament on 30th of March. Five parties and coalitions will enter the new parliament - GERB, Bulgrian Socialist Party, United Patriots, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and Volya party.
The MP seats are distributed among the five parties as follows:
GERB will have 95 seats, followed by BSP with 80 seats, the United Patriots will get 27 seats. MRF – 26 and Volya - 12 seats.
The allocation of seats was based on the Hare-Niemeyer method, also known as the largest remainder method. This method has been used in Bulgaria since 2007. The total number of votes won by each party by the number of seats. The result for each party will usually consist of an integer part plus a fractional remainder. Each party is first allocated a number of seats equal to their integer. This will generally leave some seats unallocated: the parties are then ranked on the basis of the fractional remainders, and the parties with the largest remainders are each allocated one additional seat until all the seats have been allocated.
CEC will announce the names of the MPs on Sunday, 2nd of April.
