On May 11, Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev signed a decree to dissolve the 45th National Assembly on May 12 and set July 11, 2021 as the date for the early parliamentary elections.

The President also signed a decree to appoint the caretaker government.

Bulgaria is heading to snap parliamentary elections after the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) became the third party, which failed to form a cabinet after the April 4 parliamentary elections.

BSP, who came third in the elections, returned the mandate to form a government to President Rumen Radev on May 5 after the two largest parties in Parties - the center-right GERB of outgoing, three-time Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the new anti-establishment party, “There Is Such a People” (TSN), led by TV presenter Slavi Trifonov, also returned the mandate.

After the return of the third mandate, the constitution obliges the President to dissolve Parliament, appoint a caretaker government and set the date for elections two months after dissolving the Parliament.
