The Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office ordered the State Agency for National Security (SANS) to check signals of corruption among senior state officials in connection with the function of the temporary fence on Bulgaria’s Boder with Turkey, the prosecution announced on 8th of June.
The investigation is related to an alert submitted by a former MP Velizar Enchev to the Chief Prosecutor indicating that the fence was being built illegally by companies affiliated with the Patriotic Front, and that the contract fees were repeatedly overstated.
The Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office has requested explanations from the district governors of Bourgas, Haskovo and Yambol, who are responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the fence. The State Financial Inspection Agency has also started a check.
