A ceremony of raising the flag of the European Union was held in front of Bulgaria’ Presidency on the occasion of Europe Day, 9th of May.
The day is marked on the date, on which in 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation and a united Europe.
The flag was hoisted while the national anthem of Bulgaria and the anthem of Europe were played.
Bulgaria’s Head of State, President Roumen Radev accepted the Guard of Honour.
The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of Bulgaria’s Parliament, Dimitar Glavchev;; Ministers Ekaterina Zaharieva, Lilyana Pavlova and Krasimir Karakachanov; Sofia’s Mayor, Yordanka Fanadakova; MPs; members of the public.
Earlier, the Head of State laid a wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier on the occasion of 72 years since the end of the Second World War. Wreaths and flowers were also laid by Minister of Defence, Krassimir Karakachanov: MPs; veterans and representatives of military-patriotic unions and organizations; members of he public.
