International Children's Day is observed on 1st of June. The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland, proclaimed 1st of June to be International Children's Day in 1925. Many countries from the former socialist camp decided to declare the day as Children's Day to draw attention to children's issues. In Bulgaria the holiday was recognised after 1949 when Moscow announced that 1st of June will be International Day for Protection of Children. After the change of the political system in the former socialist camp countries, the holiday remained in place.
