Bulgarian lawmakers rejected on 4th of May the draft decision submitted by the socialist BSP for Bulgaria” party to suspend the recalculation of the main monthly remuneration of MPs.
76 MPs voted in favour, 50 were against, and 82 abstained.
The freezing of the MPs’ salaries was supported only by those who proposed it and two MPs from the Movement for rights and Freedoms (MRF).
Danail Kirilov from GERB pointed out that such proposal was voted last week when the Rules of Organization and the National Assembly was discussed, and therefore, according to the requirements, three months had to pass before the proposal could be reviewed again.
The BSP for Bulgaria proposed that the basic salary of the MPs be frozen at the level of December 2016, which was BGN 2,976. If this was approved it would have led to a reduction in the monthly pay of the MPs, which currently is BGN 3,210.
