The Chief Directorate for Combating Organized Crime has disrupted a ring for trafficking of migrants. Four people were detained in an operation on 27th of April, the press center of the Ministry of Interior announced on 2nd of May.
The group has allegedly helped foreigners cross the border illegally or stay in the country. Three men, including the leader of the group were arrested in Sofia and Harmanli. They are aged between 24 and 45. Two of them have refugee and humanitarian status and the third is a Bulgarian citizen. Two other people from Tutrakan, involved in the crime ring, were also detained.
Several mobile phones, SIM cards, laptops, documents for financial translations, foreign identity documents, and other items and objects related to documenting the criminal activity of the group were seized from the detainees’’ cars and homes in the course of the operation. Work on the the case is ongoing.
