Bulgaria’s caretaker government approved the position of the country for the European Council meeting starting on 9th of March. Bulgaria opts for preserving the unity and integrity of the European Union and opposes a model of a multi-speed Europe, BNR said on 8th of March.
Bulgaria’s President Roumen Radev will represent the country at the meeting.
According to Bulgaria’s position, the trends towards fragmentation of the union should be opposed through addressing the differences and agreeing on common goals.
As regards the topic of “migration”, which will be discussed by the leaders, Bulgaria considers that provision of full control over the external borders is of a paramount importance and should be a continuous leading priority of the European Union, which requires solidarity support for the member states in the front line.
As regards the topic of “foreign relations”, the European Council meeting will discuss the situation in the Western Balkans. Bulgaria will confirm its support for enlargement of the EU to incorporate all countries of the Western Balkans, but will underline that the progress of each country should be based on individual achievements in implementing the criteria.
