Bulgaria’s caretaker cabinet headed by Prime Minister Ognyan Gerdzikov will nominate the country’s new EU commissioner if no government is formed within 10 days of the early parliamentary elections. The caretaker PM took this responsibility following talks with President Roumen Radev. Gerdzhikov said that after 1st of January, Bulgaria was only losing by not having a representative in the European Commission.
Kristalina Georgieva, resigned from the post as of 31st of December 2016 to take up a job of CEO of the World Bank. In the last month if its work, the government headed by Boyko Borissov did not nominate a replacement.
Gerdzhikov has called for all political forces which will enter the new parliament to find a will to conclude a parliamentary pact and not to to dissolve the already existing teams of the forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU. These teams include prepared, capable, knowledgeable people and we should let them work in peace, he said.
