Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that in the first working day of the Parliament after the Presidential elections, his government would resign. It is very important to be known that running the country is a difficult job, especially in a difficult international situation, and we have put a lot of efforts, the Prime Minister said. The results of the vote clearly show that more than 3.5 million people want change. People feel dissatisfied, he said and added that convening a Grand National Assembly was required.
Borissov offered congratulations to the newly elected presidential tandem Rumen Radev and Ilyana Yotova and thanked everyone who supported the candidate of GERB.
“I want to congratulate the colleagues from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, who put a lot of efforts to make Rumen Radev win. I congratulate the colleagues from the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria who made it possible for this to happen. And I thank all those who voted for Rumen Radev and voted for a new political situation in Bulgaria. In this new situation, it becomes clear that the ruling coalition has no majority (the ruling coalition was formed in November 2014 including the centre-right GERB and the Reformist Bloc, supported by the Patriotic Front and the socialists breakaway ABC party). From the statements of Karakachanov, the Patriotic Front, about their priorities in the 2017 budget, it is clear that the budget will not go ahead. In such situation, this part of GERB (main ruling party) and the Reformist Bloc (junior partner in the ruling coalition) have no way to have majority in the Parliament. So, in the first working day of the Parliament, we will submit the resignation of this cabinet, “ Borissov said.
He said that according to the results of the vote, there was a new majority – Bulgarian Socialist Party, Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria and others. So after the government resigns they can make a cabinet within the current Parliament and govern for the next 2 years, he said.
Borissov said that he and his party were not angered by the presidential election results. “I congratulate those who have more votes than us,” he said and added that his party always respected the will of the people.
Borissov said that the results of the referendum held on 6th of November clearly showed that more than 3 million people wanted change.
He called for the incumbent President Plevneliv to require from the Bulgarian Socialist Party a list for interim government as soon as GERB resigned.
