caretaker government declare new measures against high electricity prices

New measures to reduce high electricity prices for businesses will be proposed by the caretaker government on Wednesday, said caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev, who attended a round table on energy issues on October 18. According to business, the existing measures are inadequate and insufficient, and the unions also have their own vision for changing the open electricity market.

At this stage, the idea of large companies buying electricity directly from state producers such as Kozloduy NPP is dropped.

"According to the law, all actions such as the purchase of electricity, whether it is a normal transaction or technological costs, must go through the centralized power exchange," the Chairman of the energy regulator , Ivan Ivanov said.

However, the business insists that the excess profits of the energy companies be returned as money back to the companies.

Our market is not working, we do not have access to electricity, ...", commented the representative of the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria, Konstantin Stamenov.

The Minister of Energy also spoke about new financial measures.

"If we take measures everywhere to save money in the end, we will get a synergistic effect in the end," commented Andrei Zhivkov.

According to the unions, a reduction in carbon emissions prices should also be considered in order to reduce the price of electricity from coal-fired power plants.

"There are no quick and easy solutions, every decision must be examined in view of its legality and expediency," said caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev.

All collected ideas will be described as specific proposals and submitted for consideration during the Council of the European Union this week, where Bulgaria will be represented by the President.

"Do not doubt that what the government decides, and what you raise, I will stand by, including in terms of carbon emissions," Rumen Radev said.

The caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev also requested a detailed report on the condition of Sofia District Heating. The company is expected to receive money from the Bulgarian Energy Holding again.
