Tsenko Chokov remains mayor of Galiche village after the Municipal Election Commission in the town of Byala Slatina declined on 3rd of May to dismiss the controversial mayor from the post.
10 days ago, the Central Election Commission sent a letter with the recommendation to terminate Chokov's powers, because for more than 10 months he did not fulfill his mayoral duties. The announcement of the Municpal Election Commission says that Chokov has used paid and now uses unpaid leave until 31st of May and that it did not find hypotheses to early terminate his term of office.
Chokov has been in custody on charges of participating and running an organized criminal group for usury, coercion in the form of intimidation and setting cars on fire.
He has been in custody for 11 months but it transpired there was no provision in the law to allow the removal from the post.
