Bulgaria’s health authorities are easing anti-epidemic measures in the country further. This became clear from a briefing of the ougoing Minister of Health Kostadin Angelov and the Chief State Health Inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev on April 23.

Angelov and Kunchev also said they had talked to church authorities about anti-epidemic measures during the Easter holidays.

The recommendations to the temples for the upcoming holidays - Lazarus Saturday, Palm Sunday and Easter, are:

• observing a physical distance of at least a metre and a half between people;

• wearing masks is obligatory during the services;

• to have disinfectants in the churches and temples and to frequently disinfect contact surfaces;

• to provide separate corridors for entrance and exit in the temples, as well as to open the windows;

• if possible, reduce the duration of the church service;

• worshipers should not kiss the icons or touch objects;

• willow branches on Palm Sunday to be distributed in open air spaces outside the churches.

Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev clarified that these recommendations also apply to visits to restaurants.

"It is not forbidden to enter the church, people should maintain physical distance and use of personal protective equipment and avoid crowding. This applies to all sites, in order to reduce the possibility of transmission of the virus. People will have access to the temple, we recommend that this be done in hours when there are not many people and in compliance with the general rules that apply to theatres, restaurant, and shops," he explained.

Bulgaria is coming out of Covid-19 third wave

As of tomorrow, April 24, some of the existing restrictions will be lifted, it became clear at the briefing.

"We have discussed several options to relax the measures. Certain sectors are a priority of the state - in the area of education, culture, sports and healthcare," said Prof. Kostadin Angelov.

From tomorrow, in-person attendance group classes in language, educational and other training centres and schools are allowed, provided that physical distance of one and a half metres between people is observed. Wearing protective masks remains mandatory, as well as the requirement hands hygiene and regular airing and disinfection of the premises.

The next order, when the emergency situation is extended, provides for more grades to go to school in-person.

The audience returns to the stadiums, but at 30% capacity. Outdoor sports competitions with an audience of 30% of the total capacity will be allowed, but not more than 1,000 people per sector, with the requirement for observing physical distance.

Prof. Kostadin Angelov stated that the entry into the country from May 1 will be done in three ways: with a vaccination passport, or a negative PCR test or a document proving natural immunity after having been ill with Covid-19, no longer than 6 months before the date of entry into the country.
