The Danube River has frozen at Bulgaria’s city of Rousse, the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River said on 2nd of February.
The ice floe two days ago was 10%, as it is now at Lom and Oryahovo, but the ice has clogged the river at Toutrakan and separate blocks of it piled up all the way to Rousse and beyond, Ivan Zhekov from the River Supervision Directorate in Rousse said.
There are no ships in distress, but the situation is most critical at Popina, where there are 15 ships blocked.
The ships in the Bulgarian section of the river at Rousse managed to get supplies of food, water and fuel on time, before the river froze completely.
The ban on navigation in the Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube is still in place, although it was lifted partially several times in the region of Silistra to Somovit.
