European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on September 17 announced the line-up of the European Commission.
Bulgaria’s Ekaterina Zaharieva was nominated for the portfolio of startups, research and innovation.
"Ekaterina Zaharieva will be the Commissioner responsible for Start-ups, Research and Innovation. We need to put start-ups, innovation, science and technology at the heart of our economy. She will help ensure that we invest more and more with a focus on priority sectors and innovation," said Ursula von der Leyen.
The structure of the new committee and the different portfolios were discussed at a Presidency Council.
