A new peak in electricity prices for businesses has forced the industry to seek an urgent meeting with the caretaker energy minister in search of options to control prices. Trade unions, electricity traders, the energy regulator EWRC and the Bulgarian Energy Holding took part in the talks in the afternoon on September 17.
Today, the price of electricity at the power exchange reached a peak of BGN 330 per megawatt-hour. This provoked the rapid reaction of the industry, which called for an urgent meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Energy to seek options to control the fluctuation of the prices at the power exchange.
"Unfortunately, the situation is really dramatic. Unfortunately, energy prices are shockingly high. And the winter has not yet arrrived. We are talking about several hundred million euros, which the industry needs in order to be able to pay these price levels," said Konstantin Stamenov - Chairman of the Association of Large Energy Consumers.
He stressed that they have appealed to the state administration, and they expect solutions to be suggested so that the market could calm down.
"The measures are various, from medium to long-term - revision of some rules for the operation of the electricity power exchange, consideration of the option to support energy-intensive production in terms of emissions," said caretaker Energy Minister Andrei Zhivkov
As regards electricity, there is no production deficit in the country, he added.
